Trawangan is the island people mean when they say “the Gilis”. It is the biggest of the three, it has the most places to sleep, the most places to eat, and the only stretch of bars that keeps going after the boats stop running. That is either the reason to come or the reason to take the next boat to Meno, and it is worth deciding which before you book.
What it is not is a resort strip. Motor vehicles are banned across all three Gili Islands by local ordinance, so the traffic on the sand track is bicycles, horse-drawn cidomo carts and people walking with bags. That single rule does more to set the mood than any hotel on this page.
How the accommodation splits
Trawangan has the widest price spread of the three islands, and the spread is genuinely useful rather than cosmetic. Around the US$30–40 mark you are in three-star territory on or just off the beach road — Royal Regantris Trawangan and Trawangan Oasis both sit there, and both score above 9 with more than 60 reviews each.
The middle of the market, roughly US$80–100, is where the beachfront four-stars live. Above that you are paying for a private pool: Kuno Villas is the clearest example, and at 9.7 across 47 reviews it is the highest-scoring property on this site.
Where on the island
Almost every address below is some form of Jl. Pantai Gili Trawangan — the coastal track that rings the island. That is not as unhelpful as it sounds: the harbour, the night market and the restaurants are all on the east side, facing Lombok, and the sunset beaches are on the west, facing Bali. East is convenient, west is quiet and gets the view that people book the island for.
