Gili Air is the compromise island, and that is meant as a recommendation. It has restaurants, dive shops and a main strip, so you are not eating at your own hotel every night, but it does not have Trawangan’s bar volume. It is also the closest of the three to Bangsal on Lombok, which makes it the shortest hop if you are coming from the mainland rather than from Bali.
The trade-off shows up in the price list. Air has fewer cheap beds than Trawangan and more small, high-scoring properties in the US$80–130 range — the sort of place with a dozen rooms where the same family checks you in and cooks your breakfast.

Getting around
Same rule as the other two islands: no cars, no scooters. Air is small enough to walk end to end, and the coast path is the main route to everything. Cidomo carts work the harbour on arrival day, which is when a suitcase on a sand track stops being funny.
